Our Favourite Wine
Julie – my absolute, number one favourite is the Private Reserve Lodi Ranch 11 Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Woodbridge appellation in California’s Central Valley has established itself for producing distinctive, consistently excellent Cabernet. Woodbridge Ranch 11 Cabernet Sauvignon is the hearty red wine classic that lovers of fine Cabernet hunt down with passionate zeal, the king of red grapes in all its splendid glory. Our Cab has the trademark blackcurrant and cherry flavours, but its true triumph is the subtle weave of complex flavour compounds that contribute to the overall experience. Oak and tannins, pepper and spice, combining structure and rich fruit for a red wine that will dazzle from first aroma to long elegant finish.
Julie – running a close second for favourite red wine is Reserve Chilean Carmenere – deep crimson, with dark cherry aroma, red fruits and berry notes runing to a smoky, spicy finish with notes of dark chocolate and tobacco.
Julie – in the white wines my favourite is the Private Reserve New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Marlborough has the sunniest, driest climate in New Zealand, and the Wairau Valley’s rich soils combine with the cool nights to deliver astonishingly pungent wines, with gooseberry, herbs, pink grapefruit, fresh-cut grass, asparagus, lime-leaf, tropical fruit, passion fruit, and a host of other beguiling aromas. Few wines ever achieve the amazing aromatic complexity and zesty fruit of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. The expression of this amazing explosion of fruit is aided by our special proprietary yeast: by careful management of the yeast strain, Eclipse New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc casts long, rich flavours, redolent with grass and currant leaves, and a crisp dry finish.
Julie – I love Chardonnay and the best one we have is the Reserve Australian Chardonnay. A medium-full bodied wine with rich, ripe fruit and plenty of oak and vanilla gives this favourite a buttery smooth mouth-feel.
Mike – my favourite red wine is the Private Reserve Lodi Old Vines Zinfandel.
The famous thick, gnarled and twisted old Zinfandel vines of Lodi in California’s Central Valley contribute to intense concentrated flavours in the grapes. The wine is deep and rich, with bold, zesty aromas and ripe berry fruits on the tongue. Robust and exciting, it bursts with a spiciness that is met head on by the premium French oak.
Mike – running a close second for my favourite red is Reserve Luna Rossa.
Bold, robust and intense: Winexpert’s ‘Big Red’ is the largest, most full-bodied red wine ever released! A dark, inviting colour and rich, bold oak-enchanced aromas suggest at what is to come: an abundance of mouth-filling, chewy berry flavours. Luna Rossa is complex, with rich layers of fruit and solid supporting tannins, capped by a long oak finish. A powerful wine matching startling flavours and aromas with elegance and finesse.
Mike – my favourite white wine is the Reserve German Gewurztraminer.
The Mosel valley is famous for its beautiful scenery and excellent wines. Gewurztraminer grapes from this region tend to be a dusky pink colour, and result in wines from light to a dark golden yellow with subtle copper tones. Gewurztraminer is quite full-bodied, more so than most any other white wine type and the combination of its strong and heady perfume, exotic lychee flavour and rich texture make it a powerful wine with an intense and memorable finish.
Mike – if you are looking for a different white wine, I recommend the Reserve Australian Traminer/Riesling – The lively golden hue reveals a combination of floral notes and apple crispness with perfumed headiness of lychee, rose petals, and hints of passion fruit. The long finish and medium body makes a great off-dry wine for sipping.
Excellent with Asian cuisine, soft cheeses, oily fish and especially smoked salmon.
