Our Favourite Wine
Julie – my absolute, number one favourite is the Private Reserve Bordeaux Style from Languedoc, France
This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Three of the five grapes that make up the world famous Bordeaux. Plum, black currant and red berries with warm spice character, subtle cedar and chocolate. Smooth and silky from start to finish. This wine is very drinkable right from the start but definitely benefits from a few months of ageing.
Julie – running a close second for favourite red wine is Reserve Chilean Carmenere – deep crimson, with dark cherry aroma, red fruits and berry notes runing to a smoky, spicy finish with notes of dark chocolate and tobacco.
Julie – in the white wines my favourite is the Private Reserve Adelaide Hills Australia Sauvignon Blanc.
Adelaide Hills is one of the coolest and most elevated wine regions in Australia. Nestled amongst some of the country’s most famous warm-climate regions like Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, the region’s elevation lends it a distinctly cool climate. Sauvignon Blanc loves a cool climate. Vibrant and aromatic with generous flavours of passion fruit, tropical fruit and citrus, with notes of melon and herb. Juicy and crisp with refreshing acidity.
Julie – I love Chardonnay and the best one we have is the Reserve Australian Chardonnay. A medium-full bodied wine with rich, ripe fruit and plenty of oak and vanilla gives this favourite a buttery smooth mouth-feel.
Mike – my favourite red wine is the Private Reserve Super Tuscan Style from Italy
This wine is a blend of Sangiovese (the grape that makes Chianti so great) and Merlot. Loaded with ripe red cherry, blackberry and juicy plum, complimented with vanilla and spice notes. Rich and smooth with velvety tannins.
Mike – running a close second for my favourite red is Reserve Luna Rossa from Italy.
Bold, robust and intense: Winexpert’s ‘Big Red’ is the largest, most full-bodied red wine ever released! A dark, inviting colour and rich, bold oak-enchanced aromas suggest at what is to come: an abundance of mouth-filling, chewy berry flavours. Luna Rossa is complex, with rich layers of fruit and solid supporting tannins, capped by a long oak finish. A powerful wine matching startling flavours and aromas with elegance and finesse.
Mike – my favourite white wine is the Reserve German Gewurztraminer.
The Mosel valley is famous for its beautiful scenery and excellent wines. Gewurztraminer grapes from this region tend to be a dusky pink colour, and result in wines from light to a dark golden yellow with subtle copper tones. Gewurztraminer is quite full-bodied, more so than most any other white wine type and the combination of its strong and heady perfume, exotic lychee flavour and rich texture make it a powerful wine with an intense and memorable finish.
Mike – if you are looking for a different white wine, I recommend the Reserve Australian Traminer/Riesling – The lively golden hue reveals a combination of floral notes and apple crispness with perfumed headiness of lychee, rose petals, and hints of passion fruit. The long finish and medium body makes a great off-dry wine for sipping.
Excellent with Asian cuisine, soft cheeses, oily fish and especially smoked salmon.
