The 5th annual Shiraz Day takes place on the fourth Thursday in July, this year that is July 24th, and anyone who loves a good red wine must join this toasting day.
This day focuses on enjoying Shiraz (also known as Syrah) wine and its delicious food pairings. Because Shiraz is a bold, flavorful wine with notes of dark fruit and spice, it pairs well with hearty dishes, especially those with robust flavors and some level of spice.
- Grilled or BBQ Meats: Shiraz’s smoky notes make it a great match for grilled steaks, burgers, and BBQ ribs.
- Hearty Stews and Braised Dishes: Beef bourguignon, oxtail stew, and lamb shanks are all excellent choices.
- Spicy Foods: The wine’s peppery notes complement spicy dishes like curry or dishes with chili.
- Rich and Savory Dishes: Consider dishes like Beef Steak au Poivre, wild mushroom risotto, or even a pepperoni pizza.
- Game Meats: Venison pie or other game meats are also good options.
- Slow-Cooked Dishes: Dishes like slow-cooker barbecue ribs can be a great pairing.
- Other Ideas: Lentil Bolognese, eggplant lasagna, or even a rich pasta carbonara can be enjoyable with Shiraz.
It is one of the most famous red wines in the world, with a reputation for being rich and full bodied with velvety tannin. Cooked black fruit flavours of blackberry and plum with layered notes of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, pepper and spice present in this fan favourite wine.
